STOP Sex Trafficking Campaign
The Body Shop's STOP Sex Trafficking of Children & Young People aims to inspire long-term change and create a world that is taking real action against child sex trafficking. To show your support and reach out to the millions of vulnerable children and young people exploited by the commercial sex trade, simply purchase the Special Edition Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream at $14.90 from The Body Shop stores. All profits from the sale of the Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream will go to UNIFEM Singapore and H.O.M.E. Funds raised will be channelled to create awareness and educate young people about this issue, as well as to support ECPAT grassroots project in South Vietnam, helping children and young people affected by trafficking. To find out more, visit the global campaign website at thebodyshop.com/stop or The Body Shop Singapore website www.thebodyshop.com.sg DAY OFF Campaign Every year an estimated two million Asian women migrate to other countries to seek work, primarily as a family survival strategy. They courageously leave all that is familiar to them to face unknown risks. Women migrant workers are vulnerable to exploitation because they are marginalized in multiple ways by society. Gender-based discrimination and limited work options due to low skill levels contribute greatly to this situation. Domestic workers may be at particular risk of abuse and exploitation because their work takes place behind the closed doors of private homes. In 2008, NC UNIFEM Singapore has partnered with two local NGOs TWC2 and HOME in launching the Day Off Campaign - a public education campaign aimed at influencing Singapore employers to give their domestic workers a regular day off. This year long campaign has several activities involved and is open to partnerships and collaboration.
UNIFEM School Talks ![]() Unifem School Talks UNIFEM Singapore started the school talk programme in the fourth quarter of 2005 to actively promote awareness about issues regarding women and children. The topics raised are about trafficking and maid/domestic violence. We believe that it is very important to educate the young about these issues and that by doing so, they will be able to play a larger role in helping to solve this problem.
The RICE DRIVE ![]() The Rice Drive The aim of the Rice Drive is to provide a platform for students to play an active and immediate role in helping the needy. Its objective are to collect rice from students to meet the needs of shelters run by HOME (which houses abused women migrant workers), to raise awareness about migrant worker issues and violence against women and cultivate a spirit of giving among youths. The pilot rice drive was successfully conducted at Raffles Girls School in January 2008, where over 300 kilograms of rice was collected for HOME Shelters. Another rice drive program was conducted at Catholic Junior College in April 2008, where over 2000 kilograms of rice was collected. Any school or organisation is invited to conduct the rice drive at their premises.
